For the Food Security and Emergency Livelihood project Dorcas invites qualified candidates to apply for the following position based in Sinjar


Project Officer (Food Security & Emergency Livelihoods)


Location:                             Sinjar (office in Sinuni)

Main Activities:                        The Project Officer works under the direct supervision of the
Project  Manager and supports the implementation and monitoring of

project activities conducted by Dorcas Aid International and partners.

Start Date:                          January 20th, 2019

Contract period:                              11 Months

Position:                                          National

*Position will become available only upon final funding approval



Dorcas is looking for a “Project Officer”. The Project Officer is accountable to the Project Manager and work together with other Project Officers and the Technical Advisor. The position is based in Sinjar. Activities will be carried out in Sinjar District.


Range of activities under the current project

-Food Voucher Distributions

-Poultry Distributions

-Installment of Greenhouses

-Provision of Fodder and Vaccines for Livestock

-Household assessments

-Post Implementation Monitoring

-Training of Beneficiaries






Main Responsibilities

  • Collect data through KOBO and support daily workers in data collection (for example household assessments);


  • Organize Focus Group Discussions and community meetings and write English reports about these meetings for the Project Manager;


  • Plan, prepare and conduct distributions of food and non-food items (NFI) both in-kind as through vouchers;


  • Conduct post-distribution monitoring (PDM) with support of the monitoring team using Dorcas tools;


  • Monitor activities implemented by Dorcas partners wherever necessary and provide relevant information to the Management;


  • Write activity progress reports in English for the Project Manager


  • Ensure that feedback and response mechanisms are in place and working smoothly;


  • Work with affected communities and establish healthy relationships with them;


  • Assist the Project Manager in the hiring and training daily workers


  • Support in the development of information, education and information materials (IEC) together with the Technical Advisor and Project Manager;


  • Preparation of letters for communication with government departments e.g. authorizations of staff and activities;

Organizational Representation

  • Develop and maintain contacts with all relevant stakeholders including government, security forces, partner organizations;


  • Cooperate with government institutions, non-government organizations, and the local community;


  • Regularly attend cluster coordination and other relevant meetings;


  • Represent the project/program in front of relevant stakeholders;


  • Act as liaison to and cooperate with other DORCAS AID INTERNATIONAL projects/programs in the region;


  • Regularly share information on lessons learnt in the field.


•   Minimum one (1) years of experience in a relevant position within an (I)NGO;

•   Strong working knowledge (spoken, written and reading) of English, Arabic and Kurdish;

  • Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet, Email);
  • Basic knowledge about humanitarian principles;

Accommodation and travel

  • Applicant should have own accommodation in Sinuni or able to travel to the office in Sinuni (by own means) on a daily base to start the workday at 8:30.
  • Limited travel to Dohuk/Erbil/Mosul might be necessary for training purposes.
